The Arsenal's 12th Men

The twelfth men are just as important as the 11 players on the pitch.

Review: Stoke 1 – 1 Arsenal (EPL)

By: Henry4life (@andikadwipayana).

Disappointing. Gw nonton gimana Newcastle dengan gampangnya nembus pertahanan Stoke minggu lalu, tapi Arsenal gak bisa bikin banyak peluang. The chances were there, tapi gak ada juga yang bisa manfaatin dengan baik. Though, Begovic juga main lumayan baik.

Arsenal, quite surprisingly, menurunkan banyak pemain berpengalaman, leaving Ox on the bench. We were pushing dan hampir mencetak early goal dari Benayoun. Robin set up a nice pass tapi Benayoun created the chance by pressing the defender aggresively. Sayang tendangan kaki kiri Yossi masih terlalu lemah.

Tapi Arsenal yang kebobolan lebih dulu. Aerially. Crouch. Not that big of a surprise. Tapi gw cukup surprise, Vermaelen gagal memperhatikan posisi Crouch. Vermaelen is not taller than Crouch, but Vermaelen is bigger in a sense of body challenge. Ini makanya gw cukup heran kenapa Vermaelen keliatan gak total challenge bola atasnya. 1-0.

Arsenal responded quickly. Benayoun, again, bekerja keras ngerebut possession dengan aggresively pressing. Rosicky, dengan experiencenya, came to help out. Robin was there to finish. 1-1. We got the momentum.

Tapi berikutnya, we missed many good chances. Most notably, Gervinho. But he missed the ball.

Arsenal mulai kehabisan ide. Diaby masuk menggantikan Ramsey, which is a great idea. Chamakh was a great alternative. Robin udah keliatan super exhausted tapi Chamakh just lost the confidence. One goal. He needs one goal to restore his confidence. Santos was a questionable decision.

Any other day, mungkin Arsenal udah kebobolan. But we didn’t. 1-1.

Defensive performance
Szcz did really well. Couldn’t really be blamed for the goal. Sagna dan Gibbs bermain baik seperti biasa. Vermaelen keliatan sedikit off, gagal mengantisipasi header Crouch dan gagal mengintercept bola terobosan yang berujung ke shot on goal untuk Stoke. Interestingly, those are the only 2 shot on goal yang dibuat Stoke. Koscielny did well as usual.

Song keliatan lebih baik defensively. Ramsey juga lebih bagus positioningnya. Rosicky jadi bisa lebih leluasa nyerang.

Offensive performance
MOTM for Rosicky. Very very instrumental performance by the Little Mozart. Great game all around. Was unlucky not to get a penalty. Gervinho missed a really good chance. He knows how to get in the right position but he’s finishing was just awful.

Robin scored. Chamakh and Diaby did okay.

Overall
Bad, but not the worst. Gw suka Arsene berani main 4-4-2 lagi.

Another disappointing result. It’s been the story for the recent years. Arsenal gagal manfaatin kegagalan tim lawan. We’re lucky, Newcastle sisa fixturenya berat semua. Chelsea and Spurs had their problem, tapi keliatannya udah balik lagi ke winning way. Tapi semuanya masih di tangan Arsenal. Klo Arsenal menang di 2 pertandingan ke depan, we’ll surely finish third and enjoy another UCL campaign, as always. COYG!
