The Arsenal's 12th Men

The twelfth men are just as important as the 11 players on the pitch.

Preview: Tottenham – Arsenal (EPL)

By: Henry4life (@andikadwipayana)
So, here we are. One of the most anticipated match in the league this season. The North London Derby!

spurs-arsenal

Kali ini, Spurs berada di atas angin. Klo ngeliat recent form (plus faktor kandang) Spurs, mereka harusnya jadi unggulan di partai ini. However, it’s also, well, Spurs. Gw juga barusan baca artikel tentang, “10 reasons to hate Spurs.” Yes, I know, we dont need a reason to hate Spurs. It’s just nice that it’s publicized.

1. They Think They’re Better Than Arsenal
2. One Champions League Appearance Does Not Make You Successful
3. It Was 1919, Get over It
4. This Is Our Town Now

Back to the game. Spurs had a tough early schedule against duo Manchesters and Liverpool. Got thrashed against duo Manchesters tapi berhasil ngebantai nine-men Liverpool by 4 goals.

Spurs, sad to say, punya kualitas attacking yang lumayan bagus. Adebayor might not be a world class striker, but he score many goals every season. Modric udah mulai kembali ke form terbaiknya. Van der Vaart is still a dangerous player.

However, even dengan bek arsenal yang lagi pincang, we still have a better defensive unit than Spurs. Di tambah lagi, Gallas is injured.

Kemungkinan besar, Spurs bakal pake 4-4-1-1 dengan Adebayor as a lone striker, supported by Van der Vaart at the second striker. Beberapa match terakhir, mereka selalu pake Walker-Kaboul-King-AssouEkoto di belakang and of course with Friedel between the stick.

Arsenal sendiri, ada kabar klo Kos masih doubtful. Squillaci belum fit. Gerv ada kemungkinan belom fit. Theo masih doubtful tapi kemungkinan besar bisa start. Benayoun is fit. Selebihnya masih sama. Gw gak tau kabar Miquel, tapi gw rasa dia gak bakal di turunin jadi starter ngeliat decent performance dari Song pas UCL. Assuming Kos is out, ini prakiraan lineup Arsenal:

Szcsesny
Sagna-Per-Song-Gibbs
Ramsey-Frimpong-Arteta
Theo-Robin-Arshavin

Sagna should be able to handle Bale. Though, waktu di UCL, Sagna didn’t have the best game yang coincidentally Song juga gak main di DM. But of course, Rosicky was playing in the mid as well. Dengan kembalinya Ramsey ke tengah dan Walcott di right wing, gw rasa right flank bakalan lebih stabil dan bisa di kuasain Arsenal.

Arteta-Parker is going to be the most interesting matchup. Dua pemain baru, dua experienced mid.

woops, wrong jersey

King is a really good defender. Dia kena cedera terus yang ngebuat dia jadi gak begitu keliatan. He used to compete with Campbell, Ferdinand and Terry for England’s national team. Tapi Robin bener bener lagi in a very good form. Klo dia gak lagi sial, gw yakin Robin bisa cetak, at least, 2 gol.

Klo Kos gak bisa maen, this might be a blessing in disguise buat Arsenal. Dont get me wrong, gw termasuk big fan of Koscielny, tapi Adebayor is the kind of player yang bakalan tricky banget buat Kos. Mertesacker is maybe the more accurate matchup for Adebayor, tapi gw rasa Adebayor bakalan sering drop deep, and when he does, it’s gonna be Song’s responsibility.

I expect a lot from Arshavin for this match.

really looking forward to see this

Last but not least, out X-factor, Chamberlain. Walcott might get frustrated if Assou-Ekoto has a good game, dan klo udah frustasi, Walcott bakal cenderung untuk minta perlindungan wasit. Gak salah kayanya klo Chamberlain di introduce pas Walcott udah mentok. Also, he just scored his debut carling goal and debut UCL goal. Now, when is the better time for an Arsenal player to score your first league goal if not against Spurs?

I say 3-1 untuk Arsenal

Also, enjoy some of the great goals against the Spurs.

Review: Arsenal 2 – 1 Olympiakos (UCL)

By: Henry4life (@andikadwipayana)

First of all, I would like to apologize to Olympiakos and their fans for under estimating them. But there are some great points here.

Gw salut sama Olympiakos’ away boys yang terus lompat lompat chanting di salah satu pojok stadium. Such a great atmosphere, sempet beberapa kali fans Arsenal justru kalah kedengeran sama supporter Olympiakos. Dan walaupun gak ada nama yang terkenal di Olympiakos (selain Mellberg), they actually played a wonderful football. Beberapa kali gw impress sama cara mereka ngebuka ruang, cara mereka short pass, take a quick free kick. We are blessed dapet satu group sama tim-tim yang main atraktif juga. Such a pleasure to watch them.

Arsenal turun dengan lineup yang cukup mengejutkan. Gw gak nyangka Ramsey, Gibbs dan Robin gak dimaenin. Dan surprise start dari Chamberlain ngebuktiin klo this boy could be our X-factor this season.

Di awal game, keliatan banget klo Song, Santos sama Frimpong masih agak bingung. Olympiakos had the first chance as early as the 3 minutes into the game. Olympiakos ngelancarin operan ke right flank, Santos telat ngejar but Frimpong was there. Sayang Frimpong masih got beaten.

It was Frimpong who stood next to Santos.

It was Chamberlain who gave Arsenal the lead. Song delivered a delicious ball to Chamberlain. Walaupun udah jadi center back pun Song masih kasih assist. The first touch was good, and helped with the sloppy defending by Olympiakos, Chamberlain bisa terus bawa bola ke sisi kiri and scored a well taken goal.

Olympiakos hampir menyamakan kedudukan karena poor set-piece defending dari Arsenal (more on that later).

Berikutnya giliran Santos who took the center stage. Santos passed a nice ball to Chamakh yang dijaga ketat. The defender knocked the ball out awkwardly, Santos retook the possession. With one step to the right, he scored a wonderful finish to the near post. Selain Rosicky, Chamakh dan Santos, perlu diingat kontribusi Arshavin disini. Arshavin berhasil ngedraw bek kanan Olympiakos sampe ke tengah lapangan untuk ngebuka ruang buat Santos.

Gambar di atas, Arshavin berdiri sejajar sama Rosicky, leaving big space to exploit on the left flank.

Just when we thought that Arsenal’ll have a feast here, Olympiakos snatch one back from, unsurprisingly, the set piece (again, more on that later).

There were a couple more good chances dari Arsenal, Arshavin-Chamakh dan Chamakh-Chamberlain yang sayangnya masih gagal untuk mengubah peluang menjadi gol.

Di tiga gambar di atas, pergerakan bola dan 3 pemain berhasil ngedraw Sagna to be out of position. andai aja deliverynya bisa lebih bagus, Olympiakos would’ve scored.

We got lucky.

Defensive performance
Considering kita main cuman dengan 1 bek tengah murni, pelapis DM dan new LB, it was quite a good display. Masih ada beberapa confusion di bagian positioning, tapi Per seems to lead the defensive line quite well. Not to mention that he made some crucial tackles (clean one too for that matter) to help the defense.

Great individual, tapi masih kacau di positioning.

But he’ll pick it up eventually. Sagna was okay. Some shaky moments. Frimpong is a persistent boy. Dia bakal kejer terus itu bola sampe dapet. Tapi klo lawannya lebih pinter, Frimpong bisa gampang banget untuk dipancing out of position. At the moment, I’d still prefer Coquelin untuk Song’s backup.

But either way, it didn’t work right. Olympiakos was able to see the gap in here and exploited them whenever possible. Arsenal cenderung pake 10 orang berdiri sejajar pas main zonal. We saw this against Dortmund and now here against Olympiakos. This kind of understanding cuman bisa di dapet dengan game time. In the meantime, someone must take charge untuk ngecommand siapa jaga siapa di belakang.

On the side note, tiap kali gw liat Pat Rice yang ngemanage Arsenal, gw ngeliat klo Pat Rice punya tendency untuk main aman. Ganti Arshavin dengan Gibbs is a predictable one. Gak tau ngaruh atau nggak, but in the end, we won.

Offensive performance
This is a good display juga, considering kita gak pake our strongest lineup di depan. However, it turned out quite well. Gw liat Arshavin linked up lumayan bagus sama Chamakh.

I dont think Chamakh is as bad as people said. He tried hard to play the false nine role. Tapi emang itu gak suitable sama dia. His first touch masih kurang dan decision makingnya masih kurang. Tapi cara dia ngebuka ruang sama ngegunain badannya udah bagus banget.

Arshavin was the lazy one. Did nothing without the ball. Ada sekali Chamakh fought sendirian lawan 3 defender, tapi Arshavin cuman nonton aja. Tapi tiap pegang bola, he made amazing things happen. Ada 1 peluang emas dimana dia berhasil beat the defender, sayang masih bisa ditepis kiper Olympiakos.

Chamberlain was really promising. Semoga ini jadi motivasi untuk walcott and not alesan untuk pindah. Rosicky did really well. Gw suka liat workratenya. Tapi sayang defensive skillnya masih jelek banget.

Arteta was my other co-MOTM. Klo cuman nonton HL, mungkin Arteta gak keliatan ngapa-ngapain. Tapi klo liat full matchnya, bisa di liat kontribusi dia ngehubungin lini belakang, tengah sama depan. Pengalamannya keliatan banget. He knows when to pass, shoot, hold or get past the opponent.

Robin, Ramsey and Gibbs did nothing noteworthy. At least mereka bertiga bakalan fit untuk lawan Spurs.

So, nice win for the team. dan turned out, this group is not that easy after all. gw selalu ngerasa game pertama di kandang dortmund was the most difficult match, tapi surprisingly, Dortmund di bantai Marseille. So it will be interesting to see the back to back between Arsenal and Marseille. Luckily, we’ll have Wenger back on the sideline.

So next is spurs. We’ll have a stronger team than we had agains Olympiakos. Come on you Gunners!

Youth Watch!

Watch these 2 players closely, especially the latter.

In the end, penampilan Reserves cukup baik, dan 3 nama muncul sebagai the best performers: Ozyakup, Aneke, dan Freeman.

All in all, musim ini adalah musim yang sangat exciting.

Not yet a trophy, but it is going in the right direction. (@TCP_13)

Manchester Duo in Champion’s League and Arsenal Medical Team

By: @TCP_13

Hi there,

Anybody watching the UCL games involving the two super clubs from the city of Manchester last night? People said before that these two godly clubs, after their wonderful start of the season, are invincible and it would take a miraculous effort to stop them. Well, after Manchester United being halted by Crouch last weekend and two-goal lead being cancelled the week before for the other side of Manchester, their experience in Europe is not that fruitful either.

So far, Manchester United and Manchester City haven’t recorded any wins in the group stage. In matchday 1, United was held by Benfica and City was also in a stalemate with Napoli. This morning, their forms have not been that splendid either. United, because of their winning mentality (if you believe what the media are saying), was able to rescue one point, and City showed a hardfought performance (yeah, right) against FC Bayern. Well, if you watched the game, or at least the highlights, you would know that they’re not that super after all. They are as vulnerable and as susceptible as mere mortals are.

And look at the papers. What are the media saying about them? While Tevez and Dzeko stole the limelight because of refusing to play and being subbed respectively, United was only pictured as ‘careless’, or ‘sloppy’. There are no ‘crisis’ being mentioned and the media are making it appear only as a one-off. Well, can we say it two-off now? Imagine if it was Arsenal? Meh!

Remember earlier when Mancini said that he needed more players? He wasn’t being serious, was he? Then, how come that now he’s saying the otherwise? After his refusal to come on (or was it to warm up?), Tevez was ‘fired’ by Mancini in front of the media. Mancini might have thought that he had enough in his disposal when bursting his wrath in front of the press, but after what he did to Balotelli and also to Dzeko, do you really think that his strike force is as deadly as Jerome Boateng confessed? Andika predicted earlier that what can destroy City is something internal and I am sure that now the crack is opening, he might be right after all. Take a bow, son.

As for their dearest neighbor, United, after seeing their defense crumbled one by one, they now have to witness their forward limps off one after another. Well, not that bad because Welbeck was back to fitness well, and even scored a brace this morning, but United are showing that they are not that special when they can’t field their best eleven. When Arsenal lost their key players, a lot of people didn’t want to except the fact that injuries did influence the result of a match, but they surely now accept that injuries can indeed plague one team’s performance. Such committed lads, eh?

The moral of the story is, EPL is a marathon and not a sprint. How many of you already wrote Arsenal off after their suicidal effort in the beginning of the season and how many of you already gave the trophy to the either side of Manchester, or the wrong side of London when they showed a more promising start? I’m not trying to patronize you saying that it will be Arsenal that will stand tall and proud there in the end, but just give the team time and support they deserve, alright? Pheeuw, that’s out of my chest finally….

Okay, okay, I will talk about Arsenal now so you can’t put your finger towards me saying ‘Out of Topic’. You know, there was a commotion yesterday against the Arsenal medical team because of what happened to Vermaelen and Jack, one that Wenger immediately put to bed. He said:

“It’s unfair because the club medical staff haven’t made any mistakes on that front”, he said. “It is unfortunate and we are all very sad at the club that it has happened to such a young boy.

“During the period in the protective boot, the fracture he had didn’t heal. Once that was clear, what I’ve been told is that we had to go in quite quickly to repair it and that’s why we decided to do it so quickly”.

It was really disheartening to lose such a great player as important as Wilshere, but I’m sure that Ramsey, Rosicky, Arteta, and also Benayoun can stand-in there and we can still get the results we want.

“It makes us a bit shorter in midfield and it puts more pressure on our midfielders to perform game in, game out because there is less rotation possibility. Every club can be tested on that front and so that shouldn’t impact our result at the end of the season and shouldn’t be any excuse at all.

“He can come back as well and be very strong and help us to finish the season well”.

So stop blaming the medical team for you don’t even know what really happens behind the curtain. Just because people in twitter are telling what they think doesn’t make it the truth. Have a little faith, eh?

As for the new casualties in the treatment room, I somehow believe that it is more like a precaution so that Kos and Gervinho, or maybe even Walcott will be able to play against Spurs in the weekend. I admit that I don’t really know the nature of their injuries but if I’m not mistaken, the players who are currently injured are Mannone, Squillaci, JD, Miquel, Vermaelen, Koscielny, Diaby, Benayoun, Wilshere, and Walcott.. Diaby, Vermaelen, and Wilshere are the only ones who are clearly, in my mind that is, injured. The other 7 players, plus Almunia, mind you, are those that I don’t really know their true situation. Are they really injured? only precautions? or buried within a time capsule under the hill of Underhill Stadium?

Well, that’s it folks. I’m not still in a good shape after the tiring vacation (Oh the irony!), so i will end it just here and call it a day. Read the preview of the Olympiakos game by Andika if you haven’t done so, and enjoy the game tonight. I think AIS Jakarta will have another Streambar in WBH if you want to experience it with the most passionate Gooners in Jakarta I’ve ever witnessed. Find them in twitter or fb page. Here’s for another convincing win, cheers…

(UPDATE!) Preview: Arsenal – Olympiakos (UCL)

By: Henry4life (@andikadwipayana)

So, with Kos missing, now we have 5 injured center backs. The other 4 are Vermaelen, Djourou, Miquel dan Squillaci. Ini mungkin proving the point klo kita bener-bener sial dalam aspek cedera. Gak ngaruh mau sebanyak apapun pelapisnya, we’ll always come to this.

Per is the only available center back. Note that, gw gak nemu resource Miquel cedera. Gw cuman liat berita Miquel cedera dari tweet AIS. So, depending on how serious the injury is, ada kemungkinan Miquel bisa tampil.

Now, let’s just discuss the worst possibility that Miquel gak bisa tampil.

Song mungkin jadi pilihan utama. I dont want Song to change his style. He’s done an excellent job in mid, dan ngerubah posisi dia cuman akan ngerusak konsistensi dia selama dia jadi DM. And I wasn’t a big fan of him waktu dulu dia masih di jadiin CB.

Jenkinson sounds like a last option untuk di mainin di CB. But I read somewhere klo Jenkinson seems to be able to play centrally. He wouldn’t be my preference here, but I won’t be that surprised klo emang dia yang dijadiin CB.

The only reason I put Sagna in here is because he’s our best defender. Dan klo gw gak salah, 1-2 musim lalu Sagna pernah di geser ke bek tengah dan Eboue di right back for 10-15 mins or so karena masalah cedera, which turned out well. Gw masih nyari itu pertandingan apaan. It was a big game, but I forgot.

The last one mungkin gak terlalu pernah di denger kecuali buat yang ngikutin Arsenal reseves. Daniel Boateng is a huge 19 years old center back. He’s played alongside Miquel di reserves several times this season. To be honest, kualitas defending dia masih banyak banget yang kurang. Tapi dia punya power dan suka storm forward with the ball. Tipe kesenengan AW.

Gw personally, bakal pilih Boateng untuk start di game ini (assuming Miquel is not available). Though, klo ngeliat karakter Wenger, kayanya Song yang bakal dijadiin CB. So, who’s your pick? Atau ada kandidat lain untuk ngedampingin Per?

As for the wingers, gw awalnya rooting for Theo-Arshavin.
